ABOUT SHOWCASE & POST SHOW DISCUSSION
Stilts TumblingHandstands
Live MusicDance

  1. With the growing interest and access to Circus training, acrobatics and aerial performance have been influencing dance performance in the US more and more in the past decade.
  2.
  3. This showcase will offer audiences a small example of the variety of ways artists are bringing athleticism and acrobatics into their work.
  4.
  5. The artists in this showcase will demonstrate acrobatic dance as an art form and not just entertainment by taking the act out of the club and into a theatrical dance stage.
  6.
  7. How is acrobatic dance changing our expectations of performance as audience in NYC?
  8.
  9. In our post show discussion, we can address questions about: how does acrobatic dance work get made?  What is the training involved/lifestyle?  What are the challenges of this work (financial, spacial, physical)?

Who is BAX?
BAX is a non-profit organization established in 1991 at 421 5th Ave in Park Slope Brooklyn.  BAX has purposefully constructed an environment where children study and professional artists create under the same roof.  With Artist-In-Residence and Space Grant programs, there is no comparable institution in all of NYC that simultaneously and effectively provides for the artistic development of both professionals and students, and places presentations and performances within the context of that development. BAX is a place where children discover theater and dance, become teenage playwrights and choreographers, and return as young adults to teach, completing the cycle of exchange.
