LA Salsa Congress 2010

LA Salsa Congress this year was a blast.  We got a chance to spend time with our favorite friends Ava Apple & Rudolfo Guzman with the Latin Symbolics, stock up on Ballo shoes with Giuseppe, catch up with Junior and Emily, and say hi to our over seas friends from Malaysia, Japan, Mexico and UK.

We performed two pieces at LA congress.  Our first piece was our cabaret winning piece “No Air” on Sat night which we were thrilled to received a standing ovation.  Sunday night we performed a piece we were comissioned to choreograph for Salsorro November 2009, a salsa festival in Spain.  In Spain we had choreographed on Baila Society dancers in order to add more acrobatic dance group work to our duet.  The piece was performed to live music by Paloma Souanzes using harp, cello, guitar and vocals.  Albert was so impressed with the standing ovation we had received in Spain, that he requested we perform this same piece (without the live music, unfortunately), at LA congress.  The piece opened up the Sunday evening program and was received well.  Paradizo & Baila Society felt greatly the absence of Paloma’s beautiful partnership, but were please to get another opportunity to join forces, something rare in the Salsa dance scene.

There were a number of fantastic shows, including Tango, West African dance, european performers from Italy and other places...

Since we get to travel around the world and learn so much how the salsa dance adapts and grows within different cultural contexts, we realized LA Congress is still the best way to see a full spectrum of what is out there.  SO if you can’t make it to Asia, or Europe, there is nothing better than to come to LA Congress...
