Singapore Salsa Festival 2008

We had such a blast at Singapore Salsa Festival Oct 23-26.  The festival was organized by JJ Salsa Rengue Dance School, directed two very generous people, June & Jackson.  Singapore is  our most favorite city in the whole world!

The festival was hosted at a water park resort, nearby a huge variety of food, shopping and huge workshop tents.

Step 3: Dismount with Lots of Laughs!

Maybe not as pretty a flip as the lady’s but at least now he knows what it feels like to do all the work!
Workshops:  A Hilarious Success !
Dave & Zoë Love Singapore’s JJ Salsa Rengue Dance Pro Team !
The People We Met:
June & Jackson are tremendously generous, organized, hard working and a blast to work with.  Having taught their students and team on returning visits, we have gained a great friendship with Jackson and June.  What they offer their salsa community is of enormous value, and we wish them the best success as they continue to grow.
The International Performers:
Tito & Tamara (Puerto Rico),
Jamie & Liz (Australia), Dave & Zoë (NYC), Salsa Y Punto (Venezuela), & Producer Albert Torres (USA). The Amazing Volunteers
This couple to the right took us out to local chinese food on our first night arrival.  We were so excited to learn the gentleman was in real estate because Dave & Zoë had officially decided: If Obama didn’t win the election, they were going to move to singapore!

Zoë fell in love with the perfect shoe designed by Thailand shoe designer Pammie Chaiku.  However, her size was sold out.  One of Gavin’s team members had bought the last pair!!!  My heart was crushed.  But since Zoë had been hanging out all weekend with Gavin and his team, she so generously gave me her pair saying it would be easier for her to order shoes from Thailand than for me!

Gavin and his team of spunky, well styled ladies, are the most inventive and creative salsa dancers in Asia.  I love their make-up design, their costume designs, original themes and strong sense of musicality.  They are a pleasure to spend time with, and I cherish my friendship with them always.  I only wish we were all on the same side of the earth.
Lots of love, miss you all!

Step 1: Instructions...
Step 2: Ready & Flip!...
We taught 2 workshops, teaching the Drop Kick Beginning level, and Shoulder Birdie into Across the Neck into Lat Hold Int/Adv.  The classes were huge, and definitely lots of laughing.  (Dave can be quite the comic!)  But really, often what happens when people try to learn partnered tricks, so much gets revealed about who’s who in the relationship.  That can be very funny.

Can the guy lift the guy?  And does the guy flip?
Always Searching for the Perfect Dance Shoe!:

Gavin Chan’s dance partner Sally and I were complaining about not being able to find small dance shoe sizes easily. It is a huge problem. In all the congresses and in all of NYC, I cannot find shoes that fit me and will stay on my foot while I do high level tricks! Sally had me try on her pair, and I fell in love instantly! “Take theme home,” she told me. “They’re an old pair anyway and I’m getting new ones soon.” I was so excited, but made Sally agree to signing her name on the under side so I can remember this hilarious exchange always. Thanks Sally! ~Zoë
